The Best Toy for Dogs Who Like to Shred: GoDog Furballz

If you’re anything like me, buying a dog toy is a total gamble. My dog, Lucy, is a total destroyer — the second she gets her paws on a new toy, she’s already zeroing in on its weaknesses, tearing apart stitching and joyfully ripping out plush like it’s her job.

As I think many dog parents can attest, as much as you love your dog, it can be a little tough seeing your hard-earned money get basically thrown away after just 10 minutes.

How I feel after Lucy’s destroyed yet another toy.

I’ve been on a quest to find what I consider the holy grail of dog toys: A quality plush toy that will survive longer than a single day. And friends, I’ve found it: GoDog Furballz.

The Furballz caught my eye at first because, I mean, look at it. It’s ridiculous.

As the name implies, Furballz are simply big balls of fur with eyes stitched on. It’s soft and malleable, with plush inside as well as one big squeaker inside, which throws a deep, loud squeal when pressed.

I didn’t know what to expect, but I had a good feeling, so I took a chance and bought it. It was $12 at the pet store (and less than $10 on Amazon!), and I swear, it’s the best $12 I’ve ever spent.

I took it home and threw it to Lucy, who was absolutely delighted — especially when she realized it had a big squeaker inside to try and rip out.

Lucy shortly after meeting her hairy new friend.

For the first couple play sessions, I noticed some torn-off fluff on the floor. Totally normal and expected, given the nature of dog play. As time passes, the fur got a bit more matted (Lucy loves to carry it around and play tug with it), and we’ve seen far less toy fur around the house.

Because of the Furball’s all-fur nature, there are no visible seams — a primary target for toy destroyers like Lucy. I was concerned initially about the eyes, as patches are often a weak spot in dog toys, but these are incredibly secure. Lucy quite often settles in for a lengthy chewing session, focusing on those eye patches specifically, but hasn’t managed to make a tear.

Not only did the Furball survive the first night with Lucy, it lasted weeks before finally seeing a tear. WEEKS, I SAY. And even then, it took some time for her to finally remove all the plush and get to the squeaker.

So next time we went to the pet store, we got a second one. So far, the new one has lasted MORE THAN SIX WEEKS and counting.

Product notes:

  • GoDog Furballz are available in an assortment of colors and in two sizes, small and large. We opted for the larger size for Lucy, which I think helped its chances of survival.
  • No visible seams, contains a large squeaker.
  • This toy is just amazing. Buy it and thank me later!

What’s your favorite long-lasting dog toy? We’d love to know.
